Memory Above 3GB - Win2k Server

I originally had 2.0GB of RAM in my WIN 2000 server. I purchased an
additional 2.0GB of RAM. I added the additional 2.0GB of RAM to the server.
While the IBM server hardware BIOS sees and acknowledges the 4GB of RAM,
Windows 2000 only acknowledges 3GB of RAM. Is that a limitation of Windows
2000 Standard and I must use Advanced Edition for memory over 3GB?

In other words, why does Windows 2000 server Standard only acknowledge 3GB
of RAM while the server hardware sees 4GB of RAM?

Windows 2000 Server supports 4 gig of ram "out of the box" (Advanced Server
supports 8 gig of ram "out of the box"). Some systems will reserve memory
for video and hot-swap use, but I haven't seen one take that much. How much
memory is reported when booted to Safe Mode?
