Memo field

how do I only underline a portion of the text in a memo field? It will
underline everything when I only want the begining portion underlined.

You would need to use a Rich Text Box and, I suspect, that will let you
store the text in either a Memo or an OLE Field. Stephen Lebans has a free
one at his site, http://www.lebans.com, there are others from various third
parties (such as http://www.fmsinc.com), and, finally, there is a Rich Text
Box ActiveX control included in the various Office Developer Editions.

I know there were some changes in what is included with the Visual Studio
Tools for Office 2003 System, but don't know if a Rich Text Box is still
included.

Many of us have looked at the time and effort to implement rich text
processing and decided that was not one of the application requirements,
after all.
