I am an IT student surrently studying Windows 2000
Directory Service Administration. My question is:

What is the difference between a member server and a stand-
alone server. I have refered to serveral sources and some
seem to contradict each other. Please help as I have a
test tomorrow.

There is no contradiction possible, the difference should be clear as
daylight. A stand-alone server lives in a worgroup and a member server can
only exist in a domain.

The logic behind this has to do with the security scope involved. A
stand-alone server is entirely responsible for it's own security. A member
server's security is governed by the domain's security scope which includes
all members of the domain.
