After installing outlook express I noticed a "you have 3 unread mail
messages" notice juster under my user account name in the opening window of
windows XP. the message stays there no matter if I've read or deleted the
messages. How can I deactivate this feature. I'd rather if i don't see this
notification as soon as my computer is turned on. I'd rather check for
messages myself when I open outlook.

I believe this is related to your hotmail mailbox and not to your isp-mail.
You probably linked your .net passport to your windows-account.

I thought so too, but I didn't create a .net passport account until two days
after I started seeing this message at startup and it specifies my isp mail
account "patmedia.net" as where the unread messages are from. I Removed that
account from outlook express temporarily, and purged all messages from all
folders and when restarting windows it still had the same message under my
logon user account name. Any other thought??? Is there a way to disble that
notification message at startup entirely??
Thanks.
