HELP! I have just installed vista 64bit premium on a new self build with a
P5W DH Deluxe motherboard and twin DVD drives. Pioneer atapi dh-16D1p fx14
Samsung ts-th552bts11. When I try and play either any media from my drives;
cd, dvd film, game all I get is the green bar moving along slowly before it
complains that it doesn't recognise the media or just hangs. Music from hard
disc is fine. I have applied the upper and lower reg changes, and have the
setup dual built with xp and XP works fine. Also if I attach an external DVD
via usb it works. Any clues anyone????

I have DVD trouble with Vista Premium too, both HP and Plextor drives..
I'm curious- in what order did you install your dual boot? XP first or
second? Did you use a second drive or partition for XP? Thanks & Good luck.

Hi Bill. First of all I put vista on one disk then vista on the second and it
didn't like this. Then I partitioned the boot disk into 3 partitions flushing
the 2 disks. I then loaded just Vista and had numerous problems, so i loaded
XP into the second partition and many of my problems did not occur under this
envoironment.

After downloading numerous updates I decided to flush the system and start
clean again, flushing the partitions yet again. This time loaded XP first,
then vista both in separate partitions on the same disk. Woeks fine. As this
was my first self build and ealry in the Vista lifecycle having XP has been a
real boon, proving I wasn't mad or stupid; especially as ASUS did not release
all the updates for vista for the P5B DH deluxe motherboard early on and this
allowed me to rule out hardware problems.

Last night determined not to be beaten by this I got an old IDE samsung DVD
ROM out of an old pc (don't have the model to hand) and it worked fine. Reads
all disks under media player. I also have been given a samsung sata dvd drive
to try and that worked fine also. My external dvd drive also works fine.
Under XP no problem at all with any of the drives.

This all seems to point back to drivers are required for vista for my 2 DVD
players which are both less than 12months old or I'm missing something
regards config under Vista; this goes against most of the comments in the
blogs from guys more experienced than myself which say you don't need any
updates and its media player at fault. My last test will be to dismantle my
external dvd drive and put that in the PC and I am going to send a mail to
the samsung ODD support centre.

I'll be interested to see how you get along
