Maybe the info in the following thread will offer some clues:

Vista Media Center crashes after about 15 seconds

Good luck.

That's a fairly generic fault bucket (10 possible base causes) -- if John's
advice isn't helpful, you'd pretty much have to take that to Product
Support.

is there not someone at MS that knows about this problem who can fix it?

Actual product support might. The Media Center code is quite different than
other Windows code, and so it's generally not going to be possible to get
help on crashes/"stopped working" issues with *Media Center* here. I would
be pretty to extremely impressed if anybody was able to help based upon
*Media Center* fault data. If the Media Center crash starts impacting WMP
or DVDMaker or other Windows multimedia code, *that* might be possible to
deal with within the context of those other applications, but dealing with a
Media Center crash by itself in my eyes would probably require the DMP file
or something else super-concrete to work with. The abstract fault data that
might be useful for other areas is not useful for Media Center, sorry. =\

Speaking for myself only as always.
