I've just bought a MS Press guide to Win XP. Where there is a difference
between XP Home Edition and XP Pro, it notes the differences. I have Media
Center Edition; is that closer to Home or Pro?

Pro.

The main difference is that you can't join a domain easily.
It is possible as you will find if you google on it.

MCE is based on XP Pro with the addition of features for media work.
One thing it can't do that XP Pro can is join a domain.

It's much closer to Professional.

Essentially MCE is XP Professional plus the extra media features, and minus
the ability to join a domain.
