Me files cannot be read using XP

I had Windows Me on our Dell computer; it got very
unstable. I tried every single way I could figure out or
find to mend it, couldn't, so backed up all the important
programs (23 CDs worth!) and installed XP. None of these
CDs can be read in XP and my husband is going to strangle
me if I don't get his Family Tree-maker info back pretty
quick.

It isn't the CDs, because they read just fine at work. I
also have lost all of our AOL Favorite Places. Those
files are so large that none of our work or home e-mails
will accept them when I try to send them. This is
incredibly frustrating!

If these CDs were created using packet writing software, in other words
software that allowed you to save directly to the CD or drag and drop to a
CD just as you would a floppy disk, then you need third party software
installed on XP to read those disks as this function is not available
natively in XP.

The Direct CD component of Easy CD Creatore, www.roxio.com and the InCD
component of Nero, www.nero.com both enable this functionality. If your CDs
fall into the category mentioned, visit the above web sites for
compatibility and information about the latest versions. NOTE: older
versions of these applications are not compatible with XP so it's best to
purchase new versions if the above applies to you.

You say that you backed-up, how did you backup?
Did you use the Backup command or did you just copy the files across to the
CD's

If you used the Backup command, then it is that ME and XP use different
Backup program, thus you would need to reload the files onto an ME machine.

If you just copied the files across to the CD's, then what burning software
did you use on the ME machine.

What doesn't make sense is that she "backed up" files and now trying to open
them. My gut is saying that she copied them over and didn't back them up.
But if they are the Family Tree maker files, XP or ME would have nothing to
do with that becasue the file would be in the FTM format and would open
directly into the program. XP or ME wouldn't control that would it?

Thank you for that enlightening contribution. Hint: If you
get to the end of what you intend to post and realize that
it makes no sense whatsoever, there is probably no point
in posting it. I think you may be missing an "A" from the
initialization behind your name--does it stand for "My
Posts Are Asinine"?
