You don't even have to install an application to change an application name.

So, the extension is simply part of the file name. Changing the extension
DOES NOTING to the file..except changes the name.

So, no..the only way to get a real mde file is to use tools->make mde file.

Try changing a word document from test.doc to test.zoo

Nothing changes in the data...except the name.

So, chaining a name does NOT physically modify, or change what is in-side
the file.

Hmm, I´m not 100% sure but I think that I understand your Q. If so the only thing you have done is to change the extension on the file. An dif so Access recognice *.mde fiels and can therfor open it and since you haven´t used the utilaty <Make MDE file> all the code is there and you can still make changes in the design.

But what happens with your db if you leave it like this (as an mde-file) in the end I don´t know. Before you do anything at all I´d make a backup of it anyhow since you´r unsure about the consecvenses.

What´s the reason to change the extension to .mde if you arn´t using the built in utilaty in Access?

I hope you understand my question:
In windows you change the extension of MyDatabase.mdb to MyDatabase.mde
MyDatabase.mde work and open and let you design and open form and see code
MyQestion:
1- Why It work ???? Notes (I'm not using database utilities >>Make MDE File?)
2- If I live this extension as is, Is this extension will effect on mydatabase?
