MDE convertion from 97 to 2003

mde files cannot be modified and therefore could not be converted to any
other format. You would need the mdb file from which the mde file was
created. Then you could, most likely, convert the mdb file to the format you
desire.

The mde file is a complied version of the original mdb file. The mdb version
of the file would be the one that was created during the development of the
database. After the completion of the development the developer used tools
available within Access to create the mde. All mde files are in a condition
where they cannot be altered. This includes modification even by the
developer. If changes are needed, then the original mdb file must be used.
The modifications are made to the mdb and then a new version of the mde is
created.

As for where to find the mdb: Good question. You would need to find out
who created the mdb and then hopefully they will know where the mdb file is.

And just in case the next question is "Can I convert the mde back to an
mdb?", the answer is "No" (although there are some companies that can
convert back to a near equivalent of the original mdb file).

I'm confused. Are you say that in one table you have different records
related to each other based on position in the table? Something like in an
Excel where certain pieces of data are in certain cells?

It might be best to show us some sample data as it is stored in the table
and the expect results.

That is strange as I remember replying to this thread but not with those
words. I also replied to another thread where what I said made more sense. I
don't think that I had two threads open at once. Still I bet when I look into
the mirror, I can see the problem. ;-)
