Mcafee Pro 9 services, etc

Is there a way to completely disable ALL of Mcafee Pro's services,
mcagent, all the nonsense that loads no matter what I disable?
I want simple on-demand scanning and nothing else. Why do I need a
"security center" to pop up, stuff loading, tray icons, etc, etc, just
to right-click and scan a single file.

Thanks.

No, not really. The retail VirusScan v8 and v9 are hard coded and don't have many options
to change.

If you don't like the product, uninstall it. Use Trend Micro Sysclean as a "On Demand"
scanner. However, it won't protect you from yourself since int has no "On Access" scanning
capabilities. Below is a front end to the Trend Sysclean utility. You can use it to to
perform "On Demand" scans as the front end makes updating and running the utility easy.

Download the utility SYSCLEAN_FE at the following URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm
SYSCLEAN_FE automates the download and execution process of the Trend Sysclean Package.
Direct URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Sysclean_FE.exe

Execute; SYSCLEAN_FE.EXE
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; c:\sysclean\SYSCLEAN_FE.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'SYSCLEAN_FE Link' in c:\sysclean }

David is correct we on the mcafeehelp forums have been trying various things
to disable components and the only success we had was getting the security
centre not to popup. This was achieved by mcafee recoding the option into
the SC configuration options.

Even if you disabled the call every 5 minutes option for update checking the
next boot it will be back. Mcafee has coded the program to aim at the non
techo users.

We will keep plugging away for other options.

I had the same problem with McAfee. I uninstalled and installed AVG. No
problem, no update checking every 5 min. Clogs up the task scheduler log
file.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I've always liked McAfee, but I
guess I'll be looking for something else now. . . .
