MBR table order?

Hi,

I've no objection to being redirected if I've chosen the wrong group for
this.

The following question appeared on another newsgroup and it got me thinking.
"
My computer is (apparently) operating fine, but when I checked the hard
drive using the PartInNT.exe utility, I find the following error: MBR
Partition Table not in sequential order.
"

My first impression was "so what?" and that was the opinion of a few other
posters. But it turned out the OP (which wasn't mentioned in the first
post) had been told he had to fix it, and recreate all the partitions,
reinstall, etc., to which I again wondered, WHY?

IS there a situation in which the order of the table would be of any
importance? I can't see where it would matter, but then I'm no guru with
this sutff either, so ...

TIA

First hit on google.

"This can be very confusing since the entries in the MBR may or may
not match their physical order on disk. I don't know why this wasn't
specified in the original mbr specs, but you have 2 options:

1. Leave it alone.
2. Use a program such as MBRWizard (mbr.bigr.net) to sort the
partition entries in the mbr to match their physical location. In this
case you will also need to change the boot.ini so ntldr will know
where to find the Windows partition."
