MBR error 3

Mr K

After uninstalling OS Selector (a part of Acronis Disk Director Suite) my
MBR is corrupt and displays an "MBR error 3" warning. It does boot into my
win xp home, but never the less, I want to get rid of the warning. Tried to
boot into the recovery console with original xp cd, but it asks for an
administrator password. The problem is, I left the admin password blank
under installation, but the system now won't accept a blank
password..........Is there any work-around for this? Any other way of doing
a MBR repair under win xp? Tried a DOS-boot disc and typed
fdisk/mbr.......didn't work ;)

If you never assigned a password for Administrator then Recovery Console
will ask you for one but if you just continue the
process it should work. If I remember correctly the next step after
password is select the OS number you want to work on.
Though since this may be a error from Acronis you may have to reinstall
the OS selector.

You have to install the Recovery Console to run FIXMBR.
The password is probably blank.Use TAB to bypass the
password, and enter.

What happened when you used fdisk /mbr? (Note the space before " /mbr")

Thx for answering folks!

fdisk /mbr just gave me "invalid command" (free translation from
norwegian...) However, solved the problem by reinstall/uninstall the Acronis
OS selector.

Glad you got it fixed. As far as invalid command that is probably
because there was no fdisk executable on the DOS boot floppy.
