How to change the default installation folder (\WinNT) for Windows 2000? I want to install the OS to the \Windows forder!

Thanks a lot!

The following MSKB article states that if you start Setup using the Winnt32.exe
file the default behavior applies, but you can click Advanced Options to specify
a folder.

No Setup Option to Select Installation Folder

The easiest way I've found to install to a folder other than WinNT is to have created both the folder you desire, and the "WinNT" folder before hand; if these folders pre-exist the install, The W2K, or XP Installer will prompt you to install into the existing WinNT folder (advising that the folder and all of it's files will be removed before the install, or alternatively to select a folder of your choice by following the instructions then on the screen.

A caution here, if the "WinNT" folder (even if completely empty) DOES NOT pre-exist the install you will not be prompted to either select it, or an alternative choice.; the installer will simply, by default install to a newly created "WinNT" folder.

As I recall the Windows installer does all you to specify a non-existent
directory for the new installation. Of course it won't find a
non-existent folder when it poses a list of directories for the
installation.

But, the Emergency Repair Disk that the installer writes has C:\WINNT
built into it for where to store its files. At least that was true on
Win2K. I don't know about WinXP.
