May Not Be Copying Excel Table inti FP2002 Properly

I copied a rather sizeable (though not immense) Excel 2003 table into an
FP2002 web page. After doing so, I find that FP responds very slowly with
regard to any point-&-click, changes, scrolling and opening and closing of
the page. So, apparently I've gone about transferring the table into FP the
wrong way. There are 5 columns of text in that table, no formulas, just
alphanumeric text. And that's all I need in FP, though I do need to
maintain the existing columnar framework. Is there a better way to transfer
a table from Excel than simply copying & pasting? If so, I'd greatly
appreciate your help with this.

with the Excel file open in Excel, click File > Save as, and then save the page as html.
Then import the html page into your web.
