I have the above backup drive on a computer with Windows XP SP2 operating
system. When I try to view files on the drive or backup to the drive I get
the message that the drive is unavailable. Seagate advise that there is a
Microsoft hotfix Ohcil394.sys (dated 2004) which fixes this problem.
I am having trouble finding the correct information on the Microsoft site
regarding the fix for a USB device.
Has anyone had this issue/ resolved it?

Resolved the situation. Windows recognized the drive but did not recognize
the file system. I used disk management to re-format the maxtor drive to the
NTFS file format advised in the user manual. I now have an operating back up
device.
