Maxtor HD Failure?

N

Nik

Thanks Shep for your efforts, but I really do feel like giving up! I get to
the lovely big blue Maxtor boot screen, and then it invites me to press F8
to continue, it then gives me another screen of info, followed by F8 to
continue, then goes straight to an A: prompt!

Good news is, I can get MESH to replace the H/D - Am I right in assuming
that the drive now has a "previous conviction" for failing, and, as such, is
highly likely to fail again? I want some ammo to fire at MESH when they test
the drive and say "It looks fine now". I really don't want the old one
back!!

Cheers again!

Nik.

At the A: prompt, did you try running any executibles?
That would seem the obvious next step.

If you notice the O/P originally said it would not accept any commands
Kony also the Powermax program once correctly made is auto running on
boot up so should not need to be executed.

That's right Shep. It just seems to hang there, with a flashing A: prompt
cursor. The cables/CD and Mo/Bo are A1, I have no doubt about that - very
well maintained system, done all the SiSandra tests, swapped cables, new
cables etc etc.latest drivers/bios for a relatively new Mo/Bo (Asus P5GDC
Deluxe) so I'm guessing it's a simple compatibility issue. (might be my CD
media, but I've never had a problem before!)

Anyway, we digress!! MESH have agreed to swap the drive, and I can send it
back to them, but I don't want THAT one back!! I've asked for a replacement,
preferably NOT Maxtor!

Thanks again guys.
