Maximum Registry Size

We are running Windows 2000 SP4 and have a few computers
that are running out of registry space. The current
maximum registry size is 50 MB. Every time we try to
increase the maximum registry size to anything more, say
60 MB, it defaults back to 50 MB after rebooting. There
is 1 GB of RAM in the computer and the Page File size is
1012 (initial) and 2024 (maximum). Anyone have any idea
on why we are unable to change this?

Thanks,
Jason

Well I have not run into that problem but I do have a question. First
let me suggest you look at article 124594 in the Knowledge Base and see
if that is what is going on. Now the question is how large are your
registry hives. The maximum size of the system hive is 10.3 meg, above
that the system will not boot. There is no maximum size to the software
hive but on the average system it will be about 30 meg. However I have
seen some programming tools put a lot (100 meg) into the software hive.

Leonard,

We have already tried the suggestions in that article you
stated. How do you tell the sizes of the different
hives? I am guessing the size of the hives are ok, I just
a blown away as to why we can not increase the size of the
registry at all.

Thanks,
Jason

If that KB article did not cover it then I don't really know.
However you should confirm that the edits in CCS\Control are in fact
written to the loaded Control Set and that you are in fact loading
that control set on the next boot.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Select\
That's all I can think of FWIW.

Size of (system) hive files on disk can be seen at
%systemroot%\system32\config\

Some 3rd-party registry tools can show the size of sub-branches in
the loaded registry.
