I have two problems, 1) I have a nubmer of cd's that come
with the Maximum PC magazine. Ever since I upgraded to
Windows XP they will not run at all. When I double click
on the cd drive that has the cd in it it just sits there
and does nothing. When I ran 98se they would boot up and
run. 2) I have a HP Scanjet 3300C scanner that I can't
seen to get to work with XP. I have the latest drivers
loaded. It's connected to one of the usb port's. I'm not
sure if there's anything wrong with the scanner or what,
XP just can't communicate with it. Is there anything I
can check or look for.

For the CD problem, is auto-play enabled? When you say
that you double-click on the CD drive, do you mean on the
CD rive icon that appears in windows explorer? If so, try
finding a an executable file in the root level of the CD
(e.g., RUN.EXE ot RUN.BAT) and double-click it instead.
Note that if the CD is meant to run in a true DOS
environment it may never run under XP. However, if it is
a normal 32-bit application you might get it to run by
opening a command prompt, changing to the CD drive, then
typing the executable file name and hitting return.

As for the scanner, first verify with HP that the scanner
is XP compatible. If not, you are out of luck. If yes,
it may need both drivers and software. I have an HP6200C,
which took a while o get going under XP. I downloaded a
huge file from HP and installed it, but that was only the
software to control the scanner under XP. I had to
separately install the drivers, which I had to get from
the CD that came with the scanner. HP did not have newer
ones available.

If nothing else works, try contacting HP support and
perhaps they can tell you how to install the scanner.
