Maximum of 9 entries in Open With?

I've just noticed that the Open With list that's displayed when you
r-click a file in a Windows XP folder seems limited to a maximum of 9
entries. I found one of my main programs was no longer associated with
MP3. It had apparently been bumped off the list when I'd added a fresh
association using Open With > Browse.

That's a bit restrictive for some of my types, like MP3, JPG, AVI etc.
Is it possible to increase this please.

Hope you're around, Ramesh!

Hi Terry,

The OpenWithList is dynamic, which often changes as and when you open a file
type with a new application. I'm not sure if the number of items in the
listing can be increased, but it's easier to create additional static
context-menu entries such as

"Open with <Program 1>"
"Open with <Program 2>"

and so forth, as many as you require.

If I can jump in here briefly, how does one put an application onto the
Context Menu? I used to have a program that would put anything there but it
is long gone.

Thanks, Pflu

Easier way would be to use the Folder Options, File Types dialog.

Thanks Ramesh - but how do I add "Open with <Program 1>" to the
context list please? I've been studying your pages, for example
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/context_folders.htm#Files
but it looks a pretty complex procedure!

Do you know of any no-brainer program that will let you add a new
entry easily and safely please?

I've run ShellExView, and made a few tentative Disables, but with 275
entries that too looks heavy going. And of course it doesn't allow
additions, only disables.
