Maximizing window

I'm sure this is very basic. How can I get all windows to open in the maximized state. Now they open and cover about 1/3 to 1/2 the screen. Isn't there someway to make maximize a default? I'm getting tired of always going up and clicking the maximize button........Thanks
 
right click on the shortcut, select properties, shortcut tab and down in the
"Run" dropdown box, choose "Maximized" and click "OK" - next time you run
the shortcut, the window should open maximized.
