How to maximize an initially hidden Workbook:

mazimize or set visible=True")

If I read the VBA help file correctly, this would maximize with focus.

Shell ("c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ _
WINWORD.exe" ,xlMaximizedFocus)

That should be vbMaximizedFocus, not xl.
