Max number of PC's on an XP Home networ?k

Does anyone know if there's a maximum number of PC's that can be part of a
single workgroup on a XP Home Network?

I think there's a recommendation that XP Home should be limited to about 5
PC's and then move on to use XP Professional for larger networks. But is
this an Operating System limitation or just general good practice?

We have a network of about a dozen PC's and most of the time some (random)
PC's can't see all the other PC's on the network. I thought maybe there's
an upper limit on the total number of PC's on an XP Home network.

Hi, Mike -

That's a hard limit. XP Home supports a maximum of five
incoming connections - XP Professional supports a maximum
of ten.

XP Home limit 5 concurrent sessions, XP Pro and win2k limit 10 concurrent
sessions. Session is not a physical connection. These limits are hard
coded. If you need more session capability you need to upgrade to a server
version of the OS.

Many thanks for the fast response. Looks like we'll have to upgrade to XP
Pro then.

Just wonder, I connect one XP home to 3 98SE, 2 win2000
and one 98SE notebook with a router. It seems possible.
My XP is a replacement of one of my existing 7 PCs network.
