Master/Subdocuments

Anne

From an existing Word document, I tried to create
master/subdocuments. The master document retained all the
formatting (eg font, line spacing, etc.) information,
while the subdocuments lost all of it, except the headings
and the margins. I even lost the footer.

Help indicates that I may need to attach the document
template from the master document to the subdocuments, but
they were all created from the same document and same
template.

Any ideas on how to create subdocuments that retain
formatting?

Hi Anne,

As to the font formatting, etc.: All of the formatting is
based on STYLES. When you bring one document into another,
and both have text formatted with the same style name, the
formatting of the target document will be imposed on the
document being inserted.

This means that you need to create and use styles in the "sub
documents" that are not present in the "master document" if
you want them to retain specific font and paragraph
formatting.
