Mark An Index

I know how to create an Index but how do you remove the coding in the
document? Alt + F9 does not remove the field code. When others review
document, they are seeing a tag {XE...} and not understanding what that is.
Is there a way to hide the marked indexed tag?

Thanks.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the "Field
codes" and "Hidden text" boxes | Print tab | uncheck the "Field
codes" and "Hidden text" boxes | OK. These settings are specific
to each computer, so the other reviewers must adjust their Word
settings accordingly.

See garfield's answer; you cannot remove the XE fields as long as you
expect your INDEX to update. It's only the visibility which is at stake
here.

Exactly, I know you need to have them in order to generate the Index. Thank
you both.
