Margin defaults

Using XP, this week my machine began insisting on 2.5"
margins on all new documents. Old ones are unchanged. I
have reset the default many times, did a system restore
to a previous time, and yet the 2.5" remains. What can I
do?

Right off-hand, I'd say changes to your Normal.dot aren't
being saved. This could be for any number of reasons:

1) It's in a location where you don't have write permissions

2) You're electing to not save changes when exiting Word

3) It's being removed every time you re-boot windows

4) Word is being started with the /a switch

5) Normal.dot is damaged

6) You have more than one copy of Normal.dot on your system,
and changes are being made to one that is not being loaded
as the default

Do any of the above ring a bell? Are you on an administered
network?
