Maps with Access

What program can I use to draw my own territories over counties on a map and
link those drawn territories to my access database? I have tried MapPoint,
but as far as I can tell, you cannot link to a drawn territory, only
predifined ones by Zip, or county, etc. (By the way, Microsoft, if you're
listening, we need to be able to do this.) I want to have a map of counties,
then draw my own territories over the counties and assign each a number. I
will link that number to one in my database and when I run the cursor over
that territory, or click on it, I get the data on that territory.

Mappoint has an Olap Connector to do exactly what you want to do.

MDB is for babies; use a real database and maybe you'll get
functionality from the 90s and this millenium.

MDB is for drunken idiots and anyone that uses it today should be fired
on the spot.


it's just not reliable enogh.
it doesn't scale.

not well enough for a single record and a single user.

Where can get this Olap Connector? I can't find it on Microsoft.com. And I
agree with you for the most part about MDB, but it works for simple
applications, especially for users who are not very computer savvy.

Aaron has his opinions which he stridently posts.

I guess we won't tell my client who has 25 users in the Access
database all day long that Access doesn't work. 160 tables, 450
forms and 350 reports. Nope, it doesn't work for them at all.

how long does it take your customer to open the db from start to
finish?

does it run 'across a network'

ive heard a billion people say that running access across a network
slows things down considerably.

when performance is the only thing i give a shit about; i'd rather eat
shit than play with an obsolete database that doesn't work optimally in
network situations

the good news is that you can use this connector with CUB files--
offline cubes.

i can't find my info on these right now; i fell in love with them years
and years ago.. but online cubes--with sql server anlaysis services is
a billion times better so that's what i do for a living

we've got a couple hundred olap databases; each one having a couple 3-4
cubes
it's fun stuff i love it; it's all lightning fast off large amounts of
data also
