Mapping to an AS400 system ???

Guest

This is a windows 2003 network environment.
PCs are windows 2000...

I can map to an AS400 system...
But........
if I select which would like to "reconnect at logon"
type in the as400 ip address and user id and password.
Then logoff.
When I am login back in to the network.
It keeps prompting me to type the password to connect to the
As400 server. Which I already established since I selected the reconnect at
logon feature.
It thinks it is login in to the windows 2000 network instead of the AS400.
Even though in the connect as a different user
I type the ip address of the as400 not the domain name which is there by
default.
Any help on this matter will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ricardo.

Just a guess, but I suspect it is sending the credentials to the DC thinking
the the AS400 is a Domain Member and would authenticate that way. The
second "prompt" that is poping up is a result of the AS400 asking for
credentials, so when you do it that way it goes to the right place.

As an experiment, when creating the Map, prefix the Username with the IP# of
the AS400 separated by a "\"
(192.168.1.46\username)
If the server has a name that properly resolves then you coud use it instead
of the IP#
(servername\username)
or if FQDNs work in your system....
(hostname.domain.loc\username)

This would tell it were to look for the user account.

Thank you for your response Phillip,
I actually did the prefix by typing the IP of the as400 before I wrote this
question on this newsgroup.
But it still says incorrect password.
I also noticed it queries the DC instead of the AS400.
The AS400 is not in-house, it's on a different network, location.
I found this out after I deployed it to different user on different branches..
I will certainly hear it from user today.
Probably on a windows xp it might not happen since on XP there is an option
to save the password. But we don't use Xp.
I was thinking of doing a batch file in which everytime the user launch the
program
to map to the the AS400. But I cannot figure out a way in the batch file to
accept
the user id and password.
Any other suggestion.. will be appreciated..
thanks.

If we don't keep the AS400 user ID and password the same as the Windows
credentials, we have all kinds of issues.

I guess the batch file would be the way to go unless there is a way to just
not use mapped drives at all. I don't know the syntax for the batch file
either.
