Mapping new drives in XP

B

Bobbie Leslie

My system is a dual boot WindowsME and WindowsXP Pro on separate 40
gig hard drives. Those two drives were partitioned into two 20 gig
drives for C, D, E, F. WindowsXP is installed on drive E and
both drives use different connectors on a Promise controller.
I installed a Western Digital 160 gig HD in place of the 40 gig that I
was using for video editing, etc. I used their CD to partition and
format the new drive and copy all the files over to the new drive. As
usual all the drive letters for the new drive are more or less
helter-skelter. I would to re-map the drives and have Partition Magic
8.1 which I understand is capable of this. Any comments before I get
myself in a jam???
Thanks,
Bob

Letters are a matter for the system - not for Partition Magic. ME will
not give you much choice in the matter, so your best bet is to get XP
matching . You will not be able to change its view that it is on E and
the initial boot (and ME) are on C:, but you can easily tell it what
letters to use for anything else. Control Panel - Admin Tools -
Computer Management, select Disk Management and look lower right for the
graphic of the drive, and the icons of CDs etc. R-click in a partition,
or on a CD icon, and there is Change Drive Letter
