I found this game a month or two ago, and am still hooked, so I thought
I'd share

MapleStory is a free, two-dimensional, side-scrolling MMORPG developed by
the Korean company Wizet. Several versions of the game are available for
specific countries or regions, each is published by various companies,
such as Nexon (NexonKorea and NexonJapan), NXGames, Shanda, AsiaSoft, and
Gamania. Although gameplay is free, many player appearances and gameplay
enhancements can be purchased from the "Cash Shop" with actual currency.
MapleStory has a combined total of over 50 million players in all of its
versions.[1] MapleStory Global, for players mainly outside of East Asia
and Southeast Asia, has about one million players.[1]

The biggest downside to this game is you have to use IE (or a shell) to
view the webpage. So if anyone can find a way around this, please let me
know
This game is completely free, and it's optional to purchase other
clothing items, pets etc to make your character look unique, but
completely unnecessary to enjoy the game.
Also note, I'm still play this game on lowly dial-up without any problems
