MAPI error importing contacts into Outlook 2002

I am trying to import contacts from ACT 6.0 into Outlook
2002, but I receive the following error:

"An error occurred while importing or exporting and the
import/export was terminated. MAPI error 0X80070057 was
reported. Please try to import/export again later."

I have close to 3000 contacts I'm trying to import, but
it always gives me an error after importing 750 of them.
I've tried importing via Excel and via a tab delimited
text file, eliminating the non-matching fields and
mapping everything. I've also tried seeing if there was
any data around record #750 that looked bad. Everything
looks fine to me.

Does anyone know what might cause this kind of error so I
can try to focus my debugging?

I started getting the same error "mapi error 0x80070057" when I
upgraded to office xp [outlook 2002] from office 2000. The import from
excel was working fine with exactly the same files before the upgrade.
My operating system is windows 2000. all service packs have been
loaded for both. I am told that MAPI is an operating system function
so it may be that the 2000 version of Mapi will not work with outlook
2002.

Please let me know if you find a solution.
