Anywhere I can download free map files i.e. Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 (1 inch
to a mile) files for walking etc?

USAPhotoMaps downloads U.S.Geological Survey aerial photos / topos from
http://terraserver-usa.com/ (available at no charge, courtesy of Microsoft)
and creates a map from them.

All of these programs are free, they run in Microsoft Windows, and were
written in C by Doug Cox, a retired airline pilot.

The photos are not up to date. They are from three to five years old.

You can download topo Maps as well as B&W 64 - 1 Meter per pixel
