Manual restore Registry from Reg file

Hi,

after making some changes to windows registery, my system is unable to go to
Safe mode and my system keeps restarting by itself.
The only backup that I have done is to export the registry file to a folder
in C drive.
Is there any way to restore registry file from command prompt from reg file?
I have Windows 95 bootup diskette.
I running on Windows 2000 Professional.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Unfortunately an Export to a .REG registry file is not suitable for
backing up the registry. At all. It can neither capture all of
the registry and worse, cannot be Imported/Merged to restore the
registry. Even in GUI modes.

There are OS provided means such as ntbackup.exe, "ERD" backup with
"Also backup the registry to the repair..." to correctly and fully
backup the Windows and Users registry to Hive file on disk. With
those available registry Hives can be replaced from the Recovery
Console. More options if FAT32 partitions.

Or, ERUNT is a marvelous tool to make (and restore) NTx registry.

and Free.

With your inadequate .REG files and W2K the answer is no.

You may be able to replace one or more registry hive files from and
recent backup (seems there are none) or even revert to the "as-
installed" copies at %systemroot%\repair\regback\ but that is
nearly "last resort". This would be via the Recovery Console or a
second OS installation in most cases.

What changes and where were they made?

It may be possible to fix the problem but more information will be
needed.
