Malware Keeps Re-Appearing

I know my PC is inflicted with some kind of malware and
spyware but I can't seem to get rid of it. I am using the
latest versions of both Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot and everytime
I do a scan, they detect about 100 areas. I select the
option to remove these problems and it seems as though
they do get removed, but then when I reboot, most of them
reappear. I know this because when I rerun the scans, I
get the problem areas again. What should I do? I am
thinking that there must be something in my startup that
hasn't been killed, but please let me know you're thoughts
and solutions. This is frustrating. Thank you.

What are these "problems" and do they show as green or red
problems.

I have used CWShredder and Spy Blaster, but have not
looked at the websites you provided. What do you think the
problem is?

I could never begin to list everything that the two
spyware programs are detecting. To give you some examples,
there are bunch called "Tracing Cookies"; and "Data Miner"
there is also several called "Your Horoscope". But I will
answer by telling that they are all coming up as Red.
Here's a good example.. I remove the selected items
for "Your Horoscope" and all traces are gone right then
and there. I even go into my startup using msconfig and
uncheck the box. But then, when I reboot, it seems to
reappear.

What is happening is that obviously you are not getting all the malware
out. Make sure you do all scans in Safe Mode. In addition to Ad-aware
and Spybot, try HijackThis, CWShredder, and About:Buster from
www.majorgeeks.com. Make sure you have a current antivirus (version not
earlier than 2003) installed using updated definitions. Make sure you
have a firewall.

If you are still unable to get your computer cleaned up, then the best
course of action might be to take the machine to a good local computer
repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of store) for fixing.
Removing malware can be a tedious job that requires skill and knowledge
of Windows operating systems. Don't feel bad if this isn't your cup of
tea.

I had the same problem with a friends computer. If you are running WinXP
disable system restore reboot the computer and boot to safe mode by tapping
on the F8 key while it reboots then run Ad-Aware and Spybot and let it
remove the spyware it finds and reboot and if the spyware comes back you
maybe infected with a Trojan virus that your AV program did not find. I
installed Kaspersky Antivirus on my friends computer and it found ten
different Trojans that Norton missed and after Kaspersky removed them the
spyware did not come back. If you do this you have to uninstall your present
AV program. Kaspersky has a thirty day trial for Kaspersky Personal 5.0.
Good Luck.

And how do you like your new job? Does Kaspersky pay well? Do you like your
coworkers?
