Change any of the newer animations and transitions, if you want to keep
them.

You do not really need to do anything, because 97 will simply ignore what it
does not understand. But, for the sake of making the presentation look as
good as it can, I would manually change any transitions or animations that
were introduced after PowerPoint 97.

I was looking for a feature vs. version chart and did not see one handy on
line. Perhaps someone has one at their fingertips and could post a link.

You should be able to burn the PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt) or Slide Show
(.pps) to a CD and open it in PowerPoint Viewer 97 without any problem (in
general). However, there are many features available in PowerPoint 2003 that
PowerPoint 97 nor PowerPoint Viewer 97 support.

Expand (click) the item/link which states "Features affected when you open
in PowerPoint 97 or save to the PowerPoint 97-2003 & 95 Presentation
format."

I'd also recommend that you install BOTH PowerPoint Viewer 97 and PowerPoint
Viewer 2003 on your computer (even though you have the full version of
PowerPoint).

In addition, you might need to run the Detect and Repair option after
installing the PowerPoint Viewer 97. This is because the PowerPoint Viewer
97 attempts to detect PowerPoint (full version) and it doesn't always detect
PowerPoint 2003 (full version). When it detects that PowerPoint (full
version) is not installed, PowerPoint Viewer 97 sets itself as the default
program for PowerPoint Presentations (.ppt files), PowerPoint Slide Shows
(.pps files), and PowerPoint Templates (.pot files).
