Making Laptop to Desktop Monitor..

I cant figure out how to get my laptop to come out on my desktop monitor.. i
have it plugged in and everything.. but- I'm not sure how to go about
switching it.. please advise thank you!

The laptop will have a toggle keyboard combination (normally the <Fn>
key plus the <F-key> with the picture of the monitor in the same color
as the <Fn> lettering) to switch between LCD and external monitor.
Consult the manual that came with the laptop if you cannot determine
which keys to use by looking that the keyboard.
