Making folder contents not READ ONLY

How can I make a folder tree in XP Pro not be "partly READ ONLY"?

I have a folder on an NTFS partition where I keep data (for Eudora)
which is partly READ ONLY. In other words the properties show a
"greened out" box.

I change this box to be clear by clicking on it and then when I
apply the changes I say YES to applying the change to all
subfolders and files.

Strangely, after I have done this I see that the folders are still
partly READ ONLY as the "greened out" boxes are back again!

I had thought Eudora was doing this when it launched but now I
see it happens even if I don't run Eudora. It seems that XP is
doing this somehow.

How can I make this folder tree not partly READ ONLY?

This is normal for Windows XP. You can nerver change the Directory you can
only change the Files.

Now, is this preventing you from accessing and modifying the files within
the folder. NO! So, don't worry about it. It is perfectly normal and you
can't change the behavior.

If you can't use the files in the folder, it is a permissions problem.

Read only is an attribute that has no meaning for folders (the
directories are always open for writing), and XP makes an alternative
use of it. You can change it and on Apply it will ask if you want the
change applied to all contained objects, but the display of it for the
folder will revert to greyed. Ignore it
