making changes to whole column

Hello
I exported a spreadsheet from another program. One of the columns lists
names i.e. Mr and Mrs Smith.
there are around 250. Half of them are in Uppercase which means if I do a
mail merge I have to change them which will take a long time.
I know to change a cell to Title case, the formula is =proper(A2)
A being the column and 2 being the row
that works by inserting a new column and entering that formula in a cell. in
row 2

But when I drag the little cross down to apply to the whole column, all I
get is a column of Mr and Mrs Smith all the way down.

Is there a way of applying this formula to the whole column in one go? or
another method of changing the case of text in a whole column?
Thanks
Jen

I was trying this at work. I've just tried at home and it worked when I
dragged the box down.
So it's something to do with settings. Anyone know?

For anyone who would like to know, in Tools, Options, Calculations, the
Automatic box needs to be checked.

It's very odd that with all the experts here , noone seemed to know the
answer.
Or maybe it was too trivial for anyone's time.
