making an excel 2003 sheet autosort

HI,
I AM WORKING IN EXCEL 2003. I HAVE A SHEET THAT HAS 14 COLS. (A-N),
AND UNLIMITED ROWS (2-INFINITY). IN ROW 1 IS THE CALENDAR DATE. HOW
CAN I MAKE THIS SHEET AUTO SORT BY DATE AFTER THE 14 COLUMNS ARE
FILLED. (KEEPING THE SORT EXPANDED TO ALL 14 COLS).MOST OF THE COLUMNS
HAVE GENERAL TEXT OR GENERIC NUMBERS. ALL EXCEPT THE COLUMN "A". THIS
IS THE DATE COLUMN THAT I WANT TO SORT BY.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, EVERY MACRO I HAVE FOUND GIVES
ME "SYNTAX" ERRORS OR EXPECTED" " ERRORS.

Please drop the all caps then post one or two of the macros you tried that
gave an error.

Also, Excel 2003 has 65536 rows.........far from "infinity"

I would also hesitate to create an "autosort"

If an incorrect date is entered it may be difficult to track after the sort.

Hi,

So if you have Excel 2007 with 1,048,000 rows of data, you want Excel the
sort the data everytime you press the Enter key? That is going to slow
things down a bit. Suppose you want to edit row 3, you type a new date into
A3 and press enter. Now Excel sorts all your data and you have to track down
the row you just started editing. You find it on row 197,345. Now you can
edit the remaining columns. But suppose you made a type when you edited the
date. Where is the row located? Its not where it should be, and its not
where you are because Excel sorted the data. Now you have the fun of
searching 1,048,000 rows of dates looking to figure out which one you entered
incorrectly. But if you are a better man than I, and have never made a
mistake this scenario is not relevant. For me I would rather know the the
date I entered was correct and that I had entered all the related data in the
other 20 columns before I sort.

Just some thought,

Cheers,

Sorry about the caps thing, i dodn't notice it until i was done
submitting. Thanks for the info on the max amount of rows, this is
something i did not know. Will the "autosort" keep all info in the
rows together as it sorts? i will try on monday to find the macro's i
tried and post them at that time.

Hi,

Maybe we should visit the sort command for just a second. Assume your data
is set up in the following way -
1. One row of titles
2. no completely blank column in your data area
3. no completely blank row in your data area
4. no data touching the data area that you do not want to sort - in other
words a "mote" around your data
5. The title row is either formatted differently or else the first row of
data has at least 1 entry that is not the same data type as the titles. In
general this means that the only time you need to worry about this one is all
your data is text.

Then all you need to do to sort you data is select any single cell in the
column you want to sort on and click the Ascending or Descending sort toolbar
button. It is even possible to use this technique for multi-level sorts.

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

Cheers,
