Hi Darren

The web site for your BIOS should include details on how to create a boot-up
disk.

If you are running Windows EX depending on your system
most likely it will have a PC&Tool Help menu that will
provide the option to create a recover and tools disk-
follow the instructions to do so, and place the disk that
you have created into the CD drive and restart your
computer, it will then restart in the the usitllities
mode, from there slect the option to debug your computer,
from there you can perform any DOS command, FDISK,
directory services. I think what it is asking you when it
says flash the bios its asking you to start it's installer
or drivers form a DOS C:\ prompt. Anyway, creating and
running that disk will flash the bois, I dont think the
newer PC's have a separate bios flash enabler, it is all
done with the utilities dick that you will create from
your computer. To loace this:
Click the Start button
click All Programs and lood for something in that list
that indicates it is you manufacureres help console, mine
is listed in the start menu as PC Help & Tools, when
exploring that it gives me the option of creating the disk
that I mentioned. If you are still using Win 98 you will
have to refer to you manufacturers website's download
section and search for the bios flash diskette creater,
all you will then have to do is follow the instructions
like any ohter download to create the diskette, the rest
will be explain in the downloads instructions. GOOD
LUCK!!! Let me know how it turns out...Cheers Doug,

MSDOS and DOS are synonymous. What I think you are being told is not to
use the 'DOS' style command prompt within windows.

Take a floppy disk and format it; in My computer, r-click on the drive,
take Format; select 'MSDOS Startup disk'. When done, open it and copy
the flash program and its data file to it.

Now shut down and restart - you may have to go to BIOS setup to set to
boot floppy before hard disk (A:, C:). When the floppy has booted to an
A:> prompt run the flash program by typing in its name and Enter. They
are usually easy enough to follow; but two points

As first action, back up the present BIOS (onto the floppy).

If after doing the flash stage there is any *hint* that it has not fully
succeeded, DO NOT REBOOT or SWITCH OFF or use CTL ALT DEL. Immediately
run the program again, to restore that backup

The best bootdisk for bios flashing I made and is available here:

ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/utilities/drdos/drdflash.exe
ftp://User:[email protected]/downloads/drdflash.exe
http://download.sudhian.com/faq/kt7/downloads/Misc/drdflash.exe
http://ftp.sanguine.jp/pub/sahughes/utils/dos/drdflash.exe
http://herrie.rpc1.org/downloads/drdflash.exe

Abit, one of the largest mobo makers has adopted and recommends my work.

Download the file. Put a _brand new_ disk in your A: drive then click on
the file to make the disk. It has enough room for your new bios, flash
util, and backup.

Why would anyone download your crap when they can make genuine startup disks with XP.

To have a disk with no drivers. Which _must_ used for bios flashing. I
suppose all this is new to you.

I suppose this is newer to you. As you seem totally unaware of all features built into windows.

XP makes boot floppies for BIOS flashing. In fact it is its only reasonable use. Dos 1 - Windows Millenium typing
format a: /s
makes a boot floppy for BIOS flashing.

As these are features built in to Windows there is no need for anything from third parties.

Instead of promoting your web site maybe you can tell people the CORRECT answer.

I'll just add one thing. If this was a thread about dos network boot disks or something I wouldn't have said anything. But XP has a BIOS flashing boot disk making program built in. It would be harder for someone to do what you say than to do it the way it was designed to do.

You can't "download" it from anywhere.
You have to buy the CD.
I didn't catch the first part of the thread since David omitted it in
his reply.

Listen moron I omit nothing. The spammer plato ommitted the text as he won't fit in here.

I didn't have respect for you. But I also don't spam these groups, giving people the wrong answer just so they go to my site.
