Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to open a word doc. in a frame of a
webpage and keep all the options of Word possible and working. Usually
this works in such a way that the keyboard shortcuts of Word keep on
working, yet I would like all the options of Word like status, iconbars
etc.to be available too. Is there any way of doing that? So if I want
to save it after having worked in the frame environment of a webpage,
that I can e.g. save it....I believe it's possible somehow in Firefox,
but does IE also have such an option?

Thanks

Browsers don't open Word documents. Word does. The majority of folks on the
internet don't have Word.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Hi,

I'm working in an Electronic Learning Environment for a school and
students hand in their docs through this environment. When I click
their e.g. Word document it is opened in a frame, yet Word does note
show all icons and bars. Now I need to download first, then check it,
save it and send it back through email. Is it possible to just check
it, then save it and then leave out the email thing.
F12 e.g. gives me a chance to save it, but I would like to see all
icons and the lot in the frame to work on the doc, without leaving the
frame.

Thanks

Your attempting to do some "taboo's" on web pages while providing insights
in a learning enviroment?
If you had acquired a bad practice in your youth would you pass that on to
your students to experience as well?

1)"Frames are evil" there are alternaives although not as easily created.
2) As Chuck advised you, browsers do not open Word documents, Word does. If
the visitor (or student) does not have Word on their computer (or even a
plug-in for their browser) the document will not open for even vieweing,
let alone editing.

I'd suggest elimination of framed web pages to begin with.
Afterwards, should you desire to display a view of a Word document with
icons, toolbars and such? Display it as an image or image map. The
usefulness of this image or image map would not be a full-functioning Word
Document however it would provide a tutorial in a learning enviroment.
Then provide a link to the document with instructions on your
requirements.

Should you desire a functioning Word document, that should likely be done
in an intranet enviroment in the which the visitors and yourself would have
enable "shared" enviroments. (Course that opens a whole can of worms for
security issues.)

Hi Dutchy,

See if the information in this article helps with changing how Word opens when you click a .doc file link on a web page.
