Major slowdown from updates

I recently had a monitor go out that affected my video card (the shorted
out smoking kind). I re-installed windows thinking there were some
corrupt files caused by it also. I figured out the video card was
damaged and replaced it. Then I applied SP1 and all the other critical
updates.

Now my system has slowed to a crawl. Are there still issues on some
computers with SP1 slowing down performance? Or is it a particular
update that may be the culprit?

And help or suggestions are welcomed,

Perhaps you lost more than 2 items.

No, I don't think that's the case. Prior to updating to SP1 and the critical
updates, it was as fast as it had been prior.
