Major Problems!

I have had the following problems with a friends pc (XP Pro, 876mhz, 284 RAM
40gbHDD) which up until a couple of weeks ago was working fine.

All of the following seem to happen randomly: Message saying either
"Begining vitual memory dump" or "Mini memory dump" the computer then
restarts and the same thing will happen again and again sometimes up to 10
times.

Then resolution sets itself to the minimum and graphic card drivers have to
be re-installed. (The card is only a few months old and had been working fine)

Often the machine freezes on start up several times before starting problem
sometimes with the message "Bad-Pool-Cluster"

Messages often saying various windows files are missing or corrupt.

Virus scan reveals nothing, there is no spyware or adware on the machine.
Also I have fully re-formatted and re-installed XP but the problems keep
returning even before any connection to the internet has been established.

Am I facing a hardware problem here ie faulty motherboard?

Hope someone can help!

Sounds like hardware problems. Look at the RAM first. Try a known-good stick

The computer is giving what's called a BSOD (blue screen of death) and
automatically restarting. You need to identify the cause of the error.
Several ways to do it. Do the following in safe mode if you can't get in
normally to fault find. Open computer manager event viewer and look for any
errors. This should point you to the software or driver causing the problem.
The other thing to do is open control panel, system, advanced tab look at
startup and recovery, settings and remve the check mark next to
automatically restart.

Repost if you need more help.
