major problem after reinstalling windows

hi, wonder if anybody could help. I reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled
windows HE, but then when i right-click My Computer, it shows that my CPU is
at half speed of what if should be. I resetted my BIOS by moving the BIOS'
jumper on the motherboard, loaded the default BIOS setting at the CMOS setup
page, reformatted my hard drive again, reinstalled windows again, but the
problem of the CPU speed is still there. Please help me! Thank to anybody in
advance.

Does the BIOS report the correct CPU speed?
Sometimes you need to manually set the speed in the BIOS.

Does your PC seem to run the same or slower, as though it were running half
speed.

Please follow the flow of conversation. Changing to top posting after the

lose the help you are being offered.

We can't see your screens so its not easy to tell you where to look. Get
your motherboard manual and read it- it will tell you how to change the
speed. You are looking for terms like FSB, 100MHz, Multiplier.

Do you know what those are for your processor? If you don't know what they
should be what are you planning to set them to?

So something *has* changed this time. What did or didn't happen other times
doesn't really matter does it? What matters is what *did* happen. In your
case it *has* changed and the questions were asked to confirm what has
changed- but you didn't answer those questions. If you want help you need to
help by answering the things you are asked.

OMG, just found out the FSB frequency just changed by itself! why would it
happen? why would the BIOS change by itself? i just put it back to the right
frequency and it works now. thanks Alan for giving me the hint and ms for the
help

You are welcome but I'm stopping at this point. Changing to top posting
after the
thread has been bottom posting makes your question harder to follow- some
people won't try- I'm stopping because you obviously don't want further
advice.

Hi

The BIOS defaults are a 'safe & sound' setting, ensuring the system
will run - albeit slowly !!
Go back into the CMOS setup and find the entry for the CPU the FSB is
more than likely set to 100Mhz up this to 133 or 166 dependent on your
CPU
