mails deleted automatically after reading from deleted items folder

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2000. When I delete a message
it goes to Deleted items folder. When I open that deleted
message from Deleted items folder and read it and after
closing the message it disappears from the Deleted items
folder. I want that message to be there in the Deleted
items folder. Can any one help.
