When creating mailing labels using the zip code can the labels be created in
order so that they need less handling for a mass mailing? Ideally the labels
should be in order from lower to higher zip code.

yes, if you do new report, and use the label wizard, it will ask what you
want to sort on.

You can sort a report on any field you like.

In design view, properties, data tab and enter the field zip code.
Set sort to yes.

Yes. If the mailing is small enough that's about all you need do.
If it's a big mailing check with a local house that can put you list into
other levels. Frequently the cost of farming it out will save you money even
if you don't count your own time.
The best prices are available if the mail is delivered to the PO normalized
(see below) in the order the postal person walks the route.

Normalized is a post office term mening that the addresses are valid and in
a standard format.
A difficult task in Access and costly.
