This could be the result of virus spreadking spam. I had
the same problem. I sent an email to persons in my email
account to advise those who had my email address they may
have a virus that was sending unwanted emails.

The other thing i did was contact verizon (the isp) of
each occurance of the returned email msg which was not
the result of sending an email to a known closed
address. Very shortly afterwards, Verizon tracked the
problem and was able to eliminate or drastically reduce
these kinds of msgs.

You need to set up your outgoing mail server to authenticate. On your
account property page, on the server tab, set your outgoing server's
authentication per your ISP's instructions which you will need to get from
them. Most ISPs will have this information in their FAQs on their web
sites.

This has happened to me since Friday after I updated WinXP online. I
have Outlook XP/Win XP Pro and am away from home base, so my email
account is set up as follows:

POP3 = mail.domain1.com (with domain1 auth)
SMTP = mail.domain2.com (with domain2 auth)
Email sent as me@domain1

domain1 does not offer smtp, so I don't have any flexibility there.

I get an immediate relaying denied from my own PC (System
Administrator - email has no headers), not the SMTP web host.

Only mail I send as me@domain2 (via domain2) goes out successfully.
It is as though my PC has set up some security policy.

Where should I look?

Ash
