Mail Merge

Hi all

I am not sure this is a word or Excel one as it is a mail merge in Word (XP)
from Excel Datasource (XP). There are two problems:

1. The excel field is setup as currency (pound sign and 2 Decimal places).
When I merge to word there is no decimal place and if the currency ends in a
0 no value is displayed (£11.70 appears as 11.7). Does anyone know how to
access the mail merge format options or do I need to do this in excel.

2. The date field in Excel is set as UK but when I merge it changes to USA
format. Again I don't know how to get to the settings.

Can anyone help - thanks for any help or suggestions

kind regards

Hi rexmann-

My guess is that you used the Euro button on the Formatting toolbar in
Excel, which should provide the correct number of decimal places, but doesn't
seem to. Try reformatting in Excel using Format>Cells>Number>Currency and set
the decimal places & Symbol there. That should correct the decimal problem.

Next, the Euro symbol simply doesn't get picked up no matter what I do in
Excel, so... In your Word doc, right-click the field & choose Edit Field. In
the Field dialog box place a check in the upper right box for 'Text to be
inserted before:' and in the adjacent box type Alt+0128 (Num. Keypad).

Re the Date, I can't shed any light on that because the Excel formatting
_is_ observed no matter what I do. Since I can't unfix it I can't refix it,
so sorry about that one.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?cmV4bWFubg==?=,

Mail merge doesn't work well with currency formatting in the data source. If
you don't want to change that, I suggest you try using DDE to make the
connection to the data source. That would also help your second problem.
However, if you're seeing the second problem, then you probably do need to
install Office XP SP1, at the very least.

In order to connect using DDE, activate "Confirm conversions on open" in
Tools/Options/General. Now select the xls file, then choose DDE from the dialog
box that should appear.
2. The date field in Excel is set as UK but when I merge it changes to USA
format. Again I don't know how to get to the settings.
