Mail Locking Up

I have Windows Vista and originally used Windows Mail but experienced
constant problems with the pc locking up when trying to access my mail! I
changed to Windows Live Mail and still ocassionaly experience the same
problem. My mail server is BT Yahoo Mail. Any suggestions for a solution ?
