macros

as you can tell, i am new at using macros...

are macros imbedded into every form made? or do i have to somehow send them to the other users?

Hi Bob,

Macros can be stored in a document, the document's attached template, your Normal.dot, or a global template.

Where they should be placed really depends on your needs. Here's an article that will explain this in a little more detail and you may find it helpful:

thanks for replying so quickly beth.

actually i am quite surprised that i am learning so quickly. i obtained an associate degree in computer programming in 1979....we did machine language, assembly etc. but it appears that the concepts, ideas, strategy and syntax are still quite the same.

anyway.....
i am making forms for a corporation to work with. i need them to be able to be handwritten in but i see that i can adapt most of them for electronic use...which is cool.

i first had a problem with the enter key messing up the formatting but i used article 211219 to fix that.

now i am working on a drop down menu that needs to list over 50 items. but there is a limit of 25. so i found article 198561 to make a combo box. hope that works.

i also ordered a couple of books on amazon to update me.

if you have another work around for the drop down list of 25 max let me know please.

so if i make the macros in vb and save them to the document that document can then be transmitted to another user and it will work properly when opened??

Hi Bob,

It sounds like you have been learning a lot and you catch on quickly. If you haven’t checked out the Word MVP FAQ site already you’ll find a wealth of information on Word macros and VBA there.

Yes, if the macros are stored in the document then they will travel with the document. Just make sure the module containing the macros (procedures) are placed in your Document Project and not your Normal.dot Project.

BUT, the recipients must have their macro security set to at least Medium and enable the Macros when prompted for them to be able to use them.

If you are emailing the document then you may want to include instructions on how they can change their macro security before opening the document if necessary:

- Go to Tools/Macro/Security
- On the Security Level tab select "Medium"
- Open the document and click "Enable Macros" when prompted
